RN74 Seattle, a wine bar and restaurant, is adding a dash of fall flavor to imports from Alsace while offering up fine hometown wine for its October tasting menu.

Alsace, a region in north-eastern France that borders Germany and Switzerland,is an area of cultural melding due to its location, which has resulted in the creation of unique culinary cuisine.
Some of Alsace’s popular dishes, which consists of pork and duck, among other things, were brought to RN74 in celebration of Oktoberfest. RN74 then merged the two to create Alsatianfest, their October tasting menu.
The menu consists of such items as Hudson Valley Foie Gras Terrine, Carlton Farms Cider Brined Pork Loin Chop, Washington Apple Strudel, and quite a few more selections. The tasting menu is $65, and the wine pairing menu, constructed by RN74 Lead Sommelier Jeff Lindsay-Thorsen, is $44/$64.
In conjunction to Alsatianfest, RN74 will be showcasing fine Washington wine by presenting local vineyards to its guests with its new monthly wine program Hometown Heroes, led by Lindsay-Thorsen.
Reynvaan Family Vineyards, a small, family-owned winery started by Mike and Gale Reynvaan, will be featured for the month of October.
The couples two vineyards offer up fine wine that harbor flavors and aromas on opposite spectrums. Wine from the Reynvaan’s first vineyard In the Rocks, is derived from grapes pulled from a terroir rich in minerality.

The second vineyard Foothills in the Sun, lies on one of the highest elevations in the state, which produces grapes with a perfect balance of ripeness and freshness that carries over to the wine.
It comes as no surprise that RN74 is paying homage to local producers, as its reputation makes it a perfect place to showcase Northwest wine stars.
Rajat Parr, James Beard Award winner, author and wine director, is responsible for creating RN74‘s extensive wine list, which recently received the honor of Most Innovative Wine List for 2012 by the Washington Wine Commission.
Accolades aside, RN74 is the construct of Michael Mina, a famous chef of 20 years and restaurateur who has cooked for the likes of Bill Clinton and President Barrack Obama. Despite who he’s cooking for, Mina strives to please all his guests by following his philosophy of cooking which is his philosophy of life: create balance and harmony.
