Trifecta One: “Apollo & Carmina” at McCaw Hall
Get two for the price of one at McCaw Hall this weekend. Pacific Northwest Ballet is putting on “Apollo & Carmina,” two ballets that couldn’t be more different. “Apollo” is short, simple—and extraordinary. Apollo and his three muses look celestial in all white on an empty stage, exhibiting strength and grace that leaves you breathless. For a lesson in contrast, “Carmina Burana” commences. Nearly the entire company is involved, as well as a 75-person chorus on a platform suspended above the stage. Even ballet-avoiding boyfriends won’t be bored at this one.

Trifecta Two: “Damn Yankees” at 5th Avenue Theatre
It’s baseball season, even at the theatre. “Damn Yankees” opens at 5th Avenue Theatre this weekend. The classical musical comedy is set in the 1950’s during a time the Yankees dominated baseball. It hit the stage in 1955—wouldn’t you say it’s about time you saw it? If you’re having trouble convincing your date to take you, just tell them—“whatever Lola wants, Lola gets.”

Trifecta Three: “Gauguin & Polynesia” at SAM
Summer isn’t quite here and you’re craving some warmth. Your escape to an exotic paradise awaits you at the Seattle Art Museum. Time is running out to see “Gauguin & Polynesia: An Elusive Paradise.” The exhibition includes sixty pieces from the seminal French artist Paul Gauguin, alongside artworks from the Pacific. Enjoy the vibrant colors inside, even if it’s still gray outside.
