First Look: Thackeray now open in Wallingford

Located at the bottom of Stone Way, on the border of Fremont and Wallingford, Thackeray opened two weeks ago. The restaurant and bar has a neighborhood feel with a warm, inviting, and spacious atmosphere and eclectic decor. The menu is seasonally and Mediterranean-inspired and the service and staff are welcoming and friendly.

Moving away from Mediterranean fare often only narrowly referring to Greek food, Thackeray utilizes bold spices and dishes inspired from North Africa to Southern Europe. Mezze spreads, Braised Meatball Subs, and Sweet Potato Fries are some of the shareable dishes they offer. 

The Hamachi Crudo with picked chiles, ginger, cucumber granita, and tobiko is one of the best I’ve had in recent memory. The dish is well balanced—the vinegar from the chiles and the cucumber’s freshness offsets the briny hamachi while the tobiko provides an extra pop of texture. Roasted Brussels Sprouts with bacon lardons, preserved figs, cashews, and a creamy and tart lemon yogurt is a satisfying, shareable plate. The figs provide a hint of sweetness for a pleasant surprise among the savory lardons and sprouts. 

Main plates include dishes such as Seared Black Cod, Ethiopian Spiced Fried Chicken, and Ancient Grain Risotto. The Lamb Shawarma entrée with fontina, caramelized onions, garlic yogurt, and served with crispy house-cut fries is delicious. The lamb is thinly sliced, perfectly cooked, and flavored with a fragrant Lebanese spice blend.

Drink offerings were developed by Heavy’s Spirits Director, Casey Robison, and Wine Director, Chris Horn, and features a wide assortment of spirits, cocktails, wine, an beer. Highlights include a Spanish-style Gin & Tonic menu as well as a focus on Aperitifs, Amari, and sipping Vermouth. Rotating taps will include local beers, cocktails, and kombucha.

Hours: 

  • Lunch is served Monday-Friday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Dinner is served daily from 4:00 pm to close
  • Weekend brunch is served 9:00 am to 3:00 pm beginning this weekend 
  • Happy Hour is Monday-Friday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
