Going behind the scenes of one of the world’s most admirable professions.  Sometimes we forget that there are so many heroes in our midst—folks quietly going about daily duties that save lives and positively impact our immediate community and the world beyond. These hardworking souls are brave, wise, kind, humble and stronger than often seems humanly possible.  We recently spoke with one such Seattleite—Jodie David, a nurse in the Supportive and Palliative Care service at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. We are so grateful for her work and wanted to share her story with you. In the Know: 6th Annual City Fruit Cider Taste Fundraiser November 10
Support City Fruit’s harvest that feeds thousands of families each year.   Join City Fruit for the 6th Annual Cider Taste fundraiser on November 10th at AXIS Pioneer Square. The event features 10 Washington cideries and five local outstanding chefs preparing sips and bites for the evening! Over 300 people will gather and raise funds for City Fruit’s annual harvest that feeds thousands of families each year. Attendees will sample from over 30 ciders and feast on specially crafted and paired plates using the finest local produce. Hand-crafted cider cocktails will round out the evening.  (more…)

Local Heroes: Erin Baker + Help Feed 1 Million Kids
Eating well and doing good, a Q+A. There seems no better time than the very end of Hunger Action Month™ to spotlight Erin Baker (of Erin Baker’s Wholesome Baked Goods). As the name might suggest, Erin’s company aims to bake with simple, all-natural, whole food ingredients while changing childhood obesity “one breakfast at a time.” Her products are incredibly tasty (trust us!), her passion is palpable, and her motto is simple: “Small acts of compassion, when multiplied, will change the world.” (more…)

Local Heroes: G1ve a Buck Fund
A local nonprofit strives to help cure childhood cancer. When cancer rocked the lives of Gail Lopez’s family, she decided to take action by starting G1ve a Buck Fund, an incredible nonprofit that raises awareness and much-needed funds for childhood cancer research. Somehow, current research is outdated by 20-plus years, and this organization aims to fight every hurdle to help save the lives of little superheroes near and far. (more…)

Ghostfish Brewing Releases Special Beer for Emerald City Pet Rescue
Help animals by drinking beer! If your favorite way to drink beer is with a side of philanthropy, we have great news for you! Ghostfish Brewing and Emerald City Pet Rescue (ECPR) have come together to create Rescue Remedy Pacific Ale, a special beer project to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of ECPR, a non-profit dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating neglected animals. Swank Gala & Auction Benefiting Seattle Works October 8
Swank is Seattle Works’ annual gala & auction. This year’s event will be held at Fremont Studios on Saturday, October 8th. Seattle Works volunteers usually have their sleeves rolled up, working in the weeds. This is a chance to get dressed up and bump elbows with other young professionals who are also interested in giving back to the community.  (more…)

Do Good: Volunteer with Seattle Works for Fall Session, Beginning September 10
One Saturday a month, volunteer with old and new friends Team Works is a volunteer group that sends volunteers out into the community one Saturday a month for four months, from September to December. Registration for fall session opened earlier this month, on August 17th. Team Works is a social volunteering league that gets you and your friends out into the community giving back and doing good—and yes, you have fun too. Volunteer sessions last from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. You’ll be finished in time to enjoy a late brunch! (more…)
