New Grub Alert: La Toscanella Bakery & Paninoteca

South Lake Union welcomes a deliciously delectable eatery to the neighborhood.

La Toscanella opened its doors last month, specializing in Italian pastries and desserts, coffee, and sandwiches. Utilizing European ingredients to create a satisfying, yet light menu, this bakery serves artisan pastries and sweets, as well as full menu of savory items, including egg skillets, salads, soups, paninis, quiches, and baked to order pasta dishes.

La Toscanella’s atmosphere is welcoming, with warm yellow walls and large glass windows that allow the natural sunlight to illuminate the space. The patio outside is open year round, ideal for dogs and their companions. The bakery case has an assortment of artfully crafted pastries and sweets, including cannolis, profiterole tarts, tiramisu, biscotti, panna cotta, and housemade truffles.

The Crepa is thinly baked eggs in a layered stack with fresh fruit and yogurt and finished with European honey. The Frittata alle Pere e Fichi is an egg frittata featuring pears, tomatoes, mozzarella, figs, mushrooms, and homemade foccacia ($8.99). The Quiches, including zucchini and parmesan  mushroom and sun dried tomato, and turkey and cheddar, make the perfect handheld breakfast on-the-go.

Ready-made Paninis include caprese, roasted pork or chicken, proscuito and fig, and salami ($7.99-9.99) and can be grilled to order. The Insalada di Pollo e Pancetta is a salad of romaine lettuce, roasted chicken, bacon, shaved parmesan, and a light house dressing ($10.99). For dinner, the Lasagna Ferrarese con Porcini is a layered pasta with bechamel and meat sauce, porchini mushrooms, and parmesan cheese ($10.99). The Cannelloni al Forno is a rolled pasta filled with roasted chicken, ricotta, parmesan, and topped with tomatoes and mushrooms ($10.99).
