Music Madness: Frank Ocean

This talent brings his rare exceptional voice to share with the Showbox Market.

Who: Frank Ocean, born Christopher Lonny Breaux, is a rare breed of R&B talent these days. He’s remained casually under the radar, writing for artists such as John Legend and Justin Beiber, but after working with LA’s Odd Furtive Collection, and self releasing his first album Nostalgia his own stardom began to shine for his vocal talents.

He is an R&B sensation, gaining widespread popularity through mixtapes like “Swim Good” and “Novacane” and his decision to drop his first album on his own terms. Ocean isn’t your average R&B man singing about Love and Affection; he’s singing about Viagra poppin and blue bongs, and somehow manages to make it sound sexy. He has collaborated with artists such as Beyonce, Jay Z and Kanye, to win the attention of many, and his connection with the hiphop group OFWGKTA has landed the soulful recognition we see today. His live performances have been reviewed as intimate and humbling, and his show at the Showbox, just shy of his 2nd album’s release on July 17th is not to be missed.

When: Friday, July 13 at 8:00 p.m. at the Showbox Market

Tickets: $25 here
