Music Madness: Ben Harper

The eclectic blues, folk, soul, reggae and rock singer-songwriter hits up Seattle.

Grammy Award Winner and favorite Northwest sensation Ben Harper is coming to the Crocodile Cafe this weekend to support his cousin, Justice Steve Gonzalez, and his campaign to claim his throne in the Supreme Court. Harper is best known for his expansion into all genres of music from country folk to reggae to blues, and  his talents as a singer/songwriter never seize to amaze his strong fanbase worldwide. Growing up in a family of musicians in California and picking up a guitar at an early age gave Harper the confidence he needed to start performing at age 12! His inability to fail has made it hard to classify him into any category, and after signing with Virgin Records in ’92 his career exploded, and has been developing ever since. He’s noted for his quirky singles like “steal my kisses” sociopolitical lyrics, and collaborating with our Seattleite all star, Dave Matthews.

Venue: The Crocodile Cafe is a landmark in Seattle’s historic music scene, and has been favored as one of the best venues for live performances. After it’s restoration and reopening in 1991, it’s hosted Seattle icons from Nirvana, Pearl Jam and REM to today’s local gems like Thee Satisfaction, Explosions in the Sky and Loch Lomond.
