And Kingfish Cafe — Seattleite’s go-to spot for such fare — never disappoints. From Crawfish and Corn Chowder to Slow Gumbo, this establishment has the best southern food this side of the Mississippi. Yet despite their many delicious offerings, they had us at “My Way or the Highway Buttermilk Fried Chicken.” For just over $16 you get a plate piled with soul-altering fried chicken paired with the palette pleasing mashed potatoes and collard greens. Simple. Delicious. What more do you need? OK, maybe a mint julep to top it off.
FAST FACT: Opened in 1997 by two sisters, Kingfish Cafe gets its name from George “Kingfish” Stevens, a character on the 1950s’ sitcom Amos ‘n Andy.
