Krav Maga: The Israeli Art Of Self-Defense

A Bellevue studio enables students to ward off attackers — and get fit, as well.

Thankfully, most of our lives don’t necessarily pan out like an episode of “Law and Order.” However, bad things do happen to ordinary people — and Krav Maga Eastside wants to make sure you are well prepared for any situation.

The studio specializes in training adults in the art of self-defense used by the Israeli Military. Instructors focus on simulating real-life situations in order to teach practical maneuvers and tactics to make you feel more confident and secure in your surroundings. This approach places emphasis on simple principles and instinctive movements that will stick with you long after the class is finished.

Krav Maga has been proven to be one of the most effective hand-to-hand combat systems in the world. Students learn to defend themselves from chokes and holds, as well as weapons like guns and knives. Most importantly, Krav Maga teaches how to function properly during a stressful situation.

Intrigued? Krav Maga Eastside’s five-week group training course kicks off from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7. In addition to learning some of the best self-defense tactics out there, you’ll get a great work out — and feel more confident and stress-free if you encounter a dangerous situation (but we’ll keep our fingers crossed that you don’t).

About Taylor Moore

Born in Farmville, Virginia (much cooler than the Facebook game), but raised in Olympia, Taylor graduated from University of Washington with a B.A in Communications and Sociology. She’s a major foodie and loves trying new restaurants and new food, and is also passionate about traveling the globe — just like her idol, Anthony Bourdain. When she’s not writing, eating, lustfully wandering Nordstrom or J. Crew, or looking up cat videos on YouTube, you might find Taylor jet-setting around to sunnier skies whenever she gets the opportunity.
