Gingerbread Village at Sheraton Seattle Hotel opens today

One of Seattle’s most beloved holiday traditions returned for the Sheraton Seattle Hotel’s 24th Annual Gingerbread Village. Since 1992, the Sheraton’s expert culinary team has partnered with top local architecture firms to design, build and wow the crowds with intricate, larger-than-life gingerbread creations. The unforgettable event keeps more than 150,000 visitors coming back year after year.

The display is free to the public, although donations to the Northwest Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) are accepted and appreciated. Gingerbread Village will be open through January 1st in the lobby of the hotel.

Last year’s Star Wars themed Gingerbread Village raised a record-breaking $85,000 for the Northwest chapter of JDRF. This year Executive Chef Armstrong and his team are prepared to keep up the fundraising momentum with a Spellbinding Holiday theme, coinciding with the Friday, November 18 release of the Fantastic Beasts film from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. This year’s featured architects include 4D Architects, Ankrom Moisan, Bailly & Bailly, CallisonRTKL, Master Builders of King and Snohomish and Gelotte Hommas and MG2.

Over the past twenty years, the Gingerbread Village has raised more than $841,000 for the JDRF. The Sheraton Seattle’s staff donates more than 1,000 volunteer hours for this event and the displays use an estimated 1,200 lbs. of dough, 800 lbs. of icing, 200 lbs. of white chocolate, 250 lbs. of almond paste and hundreds of pounds of candy.
