Food Porn: Wild Ginger Bellevue

Elegant Southeast Asian cuisine in Bellevue downtown.

In this edition of Food Porn, we feature the Bellevue location of Wild Ginger, located in The Bravern. The atmosphere is sophisticated with modern decor, high ceilings, and tall windows illuminating the dining room. The food is inspired from bold and flavorful Southeast Asian flavors. From the helpful hostesses to our awesome server, Laura, the service is superb.

One of their signature dishes is the Wild Ginger Fragrant Duck, served with steamed buns, Sichuan peppercorn and sweet plum sauce. The crispy duck skin is the best part. Nam’s Lamb Chops marinated in cognac and finished with hoisin, fresh toasted coconut and crushed peanuts, is seasoned well with a nice grill flavor. Another signature dish is the Seven Flavor Beef, flank steak with lemongrass, peanuts, chilies, hoisin, basil, garlic, and ginger. It’s tougher than we expected, but had nice flavors and definitely a dish that would please a wide audience.

Black Pepper Scallops are seared and then coated with soy sauce and black pepper, almost like a ‘popcorn’ scallop. The Seabass with peanuts and fresh herbs pan-fried and finished with Southeast Asian herbs and crushed peanuts was one of our favorite dishes. The fish was moist and flaky and the topping complimented the fish well without overpowering it.

The Cracked Coconut Martini with pineapple rum, muddled lime, and coconut is divine. I’m often afraid that coconut drinks will taste like a pina colada or way too sweet, but this one was perfection. The Bittersweet Martini with grapefruit vodka, St. Germain, sweet and sour is also refreshing and citrusy.

Wild Ginger is open for lunch Monday through Friday 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. Dim Sum is served on the weekends from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Dinner is served Monday through Thursday from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Friday from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm, and Sunday from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
