Food Porn: SLU’s Serious Pie + Serious Biscuit

A second Serious Pie location and daytime biscuit sandwiches.

In this edition of Food Porn, we feature South Lake Union’s Serious Pie and Serious Biscuit, located on Westlake Ave. Serious Biscuit is housed in the downstairs portion of the restaurant during breakfast and lunch hours and becomes seating for Serious Pie in the evening. This opens up much more space to enjoy some seriously good pizza.

Let’s talk biscuits. “The Zach” consists of a homemade biscuit with handbreaded chicken, a fried egg, bacon, and topped with black pepper gravy. The picture does not do this biscuit sandwich justice. It is the best item off the menu. The Ham and Egg Biscuit is a sweet and savory combination of homemade ham, egg, Beecher’s cheddar, and finished with an apple mustard sauce.

OK, now onto the fabulous pies. Don’t shy from this pizza because of the clams, the Penn Cove Clam is surprisingly good. Fresh clams, house pancetta, and lemon thyme served on a crisp, wood-fired pizza, the balance of ingredients is a blast to the senses.

The Soft Egg pizza with Prosser tomatoes, Scamorza cheese, and smoked salt is also quite interesting. The egg adds a richness and the smoked salt gives the crust an elevated flavor profile. For a traditional favorite, try the Buffalo Mozzarella, their version of the Margherita, with creamy mozzarella, tomato sauce, and fresh basil.

The Root Beer Float with a special root beer blend and vanilla ice cream is a serious way to cool down from this hearty meal. But, save room for their Triple Coconut Cream Pie. It’s famous for a reason — the filling is decadent melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Even if you aren’t a coconut fan, this combination of custard, whipped cream, and shaved white chocolate curls will make you a believer.

Serious Biscuit is open weekdays from 7:00am-3:00pm, weekends from 9:00am-3:00pm. Serious Pie is open daily from 11:00am-10:00pm, with happy hour specials on weekdays from 3-6pm and Sundays from 6-8pm.

If you have visited the original location of Serious Pie in Belltown, next to Dahlia Lounge, you are familiar with the extremely hunger-inducing, but worthwhile wait (it can run up to 2 hours!) This location offers a similar menu, but more seating, making it ideal for bigger groups. Visit weekday mornings or Sunday brunch for biscuits or catch happy hour to share a variety of smaller-sized pizza pies.
