Food Porn: Breakfast at Eques

Downtown Bellevue does breakfast.

In this edition of Food Porn, we feature Eques, a classy breakfast restaurant in the Hyatt Regency. While Eques may be located in a hotel, the food is quite exceptional. Impressively good food that is beautifully and thoughtfully plated and great service — check it out if you’re on the Eastside.

The Continental Buffet for $15.50 serves Salumi charcuterie, Beecher’s cheese, fresh fruit, and an assortment of pastries and cereals. Choose the American Buffet for $19.50 that includes full access to the Continental Buffet plus the hot bar. On this particular Sunday, they featured scrambled eggs, buttermilk and red velvet pancakes, roasted potatoes, bacon, and oatmeal. The Red Velvet Pancakes was like having dessert at breakfast — it really tasted like the classic Southern dessert.

On the weekends, they have an Omelette Bar where you can pick your ingredients for a custom omelette that they deliver to your table. The Pear & Fig Stuffed French Toast with a Riesling poached pear, vanilla bean cream, pear huckleberry compote, and pistachios. This is exactly the way I like my french toast — crispy. It had a nice crunchy texture on the outside and the inside was moist and soft. I could have had more fig and pear filling, but otherwise, definitely a highlight. The Tiramisu Pancakes are a really unique item. If you like a sweet breakfast, these pancakes will hit the spot.

Two of their savory signature dishes are not to be missed. The “425” Pork & Eggs is a stack of braised pork shoulder with two over easy eggs, breakfast potatoes, and a tomatillo salsa. The Eques Signature Eggs Benedict comes in three variations — shaved prosciutto, smoked salmon, or Alaskan dungeness crab cake. Grab a Mimosa or a fresh fruit Smoothie and it’ll be a satisfying meal to start your day.

Breakfast is offered from Monday through Friday 6:30 am to 10:00 am, Saturday from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm and Sunday from 7:00 am to 1:30 pm.
