About Erin Thomas

Exported from the once rural areas north of the city, Erin has always been a Seattleite at heart. Since receiving her degree in Journalism from the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at WSU, she has been moonlighting as a freelance writer. Familiar stints include CitySearch Seattle, Washington State Magazine, Seattle Woman Magazine and her long-time contributing to WINO Magazine, as well as copy-writing and on-air contributions to local radio. When Erin's not consuming large amounts of wine or writing in her blog, abottle/aweek, she can be found eating most food put in front of her face, screaming for the Cougs or drooling over the brothers on Vampire Diaries. For more of Erin's daily, irrelevant ramblings, find her on Twitter.

Corks+Forks: A Toast to Sparkling Wine
A guide to bubbles that will brighten your spirit on New Year’s Eve. Drinking sparkling wine on New Year’s Eve is a little played out — but regardless, everyone will do it. Most bars include a toast with cover charge, while retailers hammer home their inventory. Realistically, you won’t be focused on pairing your meal this Saturday night — so I’ll throw my hat into the ring for bubbly recommendations, instead. (more…)

Corks+Forks: Classic Breakfast & A Bloody Mary
Ballard’s oldest bar doesn’t look a day over 97, thanks to its satisfying brunch menu. Some Seattleites might be appalled at the idea of pairing breakfast — the day’s most important meal — with an alcoholic beverage. Sometimes, however, the holidays call for it — the extensive celebration with abrasive relatives where a copious supply of wine is your only refuge, for example. (more…)

Corks+Forks: Tacos Al Pastor and Carménère
Get spicy with Mexican cooking and Chilean refreshments. Traveling in Australia can make an American hanker after Tex Mex like no other. It could have been the three weeks of driving on the opposite side of the road or that it rained the entire time of my visit for the first time in a four year draught, but my time in the Land Down Under was a unique experience overall. A Seattle staple -- Manny's Pale Ale
Corks+Forks: Fish and Chips With Local Pale Ale
Keep it fresh and regional with Wallingford dive bar grub and Georgetown slug. A daylight headache is bound to follow when one often finds themselves face to face with a bottle of wine (or four). A true beverage-fiend knows when you have a fever, the only cure is more alcohol — and its lesser known partner in crime, grease. (more…)

Fireside Cellars
Shape Up For The Season At Willows Lodge
Fireside Cellars wants to lend you a holiday hand. Comedian Maria Bamford, also known as “Crazy Target Lady,” manically embodies one tip for the holiday shopping season that kicked off last Friday — participants must be fit, fixated and freaking into it. Beyond the shopping and the party-going, the holidays often require a steady pace of preparedness. One misstep could end in a misshapen gingerbread house, a cranberry cocktail gone sour or even ::gasp:: an accidentally charred bird. (more…)

El Gaucho Revamps Luxury
Critically acclaimed wine is just a few bills away. “They’re just grapes from a farm, that’s all it is,” said Kristen Young, former Wine Director at AQUA by El Gaucho (formerly Waterfront Seafood Grill). “People like to make such a fuss about wine.” (more…)
