Despite being an Arizona native, Bridget's heart is in the Pacific Northwest. She's a graduate of the University of Oregon's School of Journalism and Communication and recently moved to Seattle to pursue her passions: writing, food, wine and music. She has written for women's and philanthropy magazines in Scottsdale, Arizona as well as the University of Oregon's newspaper, the Daily Emerald. Bridget is currently a news assistant with a local television station. When she's not cooking, sipping red wine or buried in the latest issue of Rolling Stone, you can usually find her outside enjoying a rare sunny day in Seattle or laughing with friends. Look no further – traditional Oaxacan food awaits you in Ballard.
I was beginning to lose hope that there’s any authentic Mexican food in Seattle. Low and behold, a friend took me to La Carta de Oaxaca in Ballard and my faith is restored. You won’t find gobs of cheese piled on runny refried beans here – the food is fresh, well-seasoned and to top it off, inexpensive. The place can get packed, but the food and wait are worth it. A barbecue-inspired food truck rolls into Wallingford.
Parked on the corner of 45th St. and Thackeray Pl. sits Pinky’s Kitchen, a mobile food stop offering cheap sliders, macaroni and cheese and a choice of five barbecue sauces – the ultimate comfort food. A friend and I stopped in on a blistery Sunday night and were greeted with warm, smiling faces. Most people ordered their meals to go, but we were so hungry we took shelter in the tent set up next to the truck, and sunk our teeth in. (more…)
